JIM BOLING – OWNER / INSTRUCTOR
Jim is a life-long avid outdoorsman – backpacking, canoeing, cycling, kayaking, hiking, fly fishing, camping – and a retired US Army Colonel and combat veteran with 34 years of service culminating as a professor at the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. A Magna Cum Laude graduate of the US Naval War College, he holds four Masters Degrees and is a nationally-recognized writer. Jim is certified as an American Red Cross instructor, Wilderness First Responder, Basic Life Support (CPR-AED) provider, and Level II Search and Rescue Technician. Jim has taught wilderness medicine courses to professional groups and the public for over 12 years.
DR. RICHARD TENGLIN – MEDICAL DIRECTOR / INSTRUCTOR
A life-long outdoorsman who has hiked, camped, and backpacked much of the American West, Dr. Dick Tenglin is a retired US Army Colonel and Special Forces combat veteran. His 28 years of service included assignments as: Group Surgeon, 7th Special Forces Group; Deputy Command Surgeon and Chief, Medical Ops, US Army Special Operations Command; and Command Surgeon, US Army Special Operations Command. Dick is an Army Master Parachutist, Flight Surgeon, Diving Medical Officer, Combat Diver, and Jumpmaster; as well as a graduate of the US Army Jungle Operations Course. His awards include the US Army’s Expert Field Medical Badge and Combat Medical Badge. Dick is board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, and oncology and still practicing medicine. In addition to his many medical qualifications, he is currently a Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) Open Water Diving Instructor.
JULIE QUEEN -- INSTRUCTOR
Julie Queen is a passionate outdoor and adventure educator currently serving as the Manager of the Appalachian Trail Museum in Gardners, PA. She is an avid backpacker, hiker, biker, paddler, and snowboarder and is certified as a Wilderness First Responder. Julie received a BS in Environmental Biology from Millersville University before going on to serve in the Peace Corps as a Natural Resource Conservation Volunteer in Ecuador. She has worked for the PA Department of Agriculture, PA Bureau of State Parks, and Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA. Julie thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2016 and served as a Ridgerunner in 2017.
BARBARA MYERS, RN -- INSTRUCTOR
Barbara discovered her joy for outdoor adventure growing up in Alaska. She earned a BS in nursing through ROTC and served as a US Army Critical Care Nurse. Barbara's medical experience includes ER, trauma, burn unit, and international school nursing in Russia and Costa Rica. While in Costa Rica, she developed and taught new wilderness / tropical first aid and water survival curriculum for middle school students. Barbara's additional outdoor pursuits include USA swim coach and National Ski Patrol. Barbara has lived, worked, and played across North America, Latin America, Asia, and Europe, pursuing her love of skiing, swimming, cycling, hiking, camping, scuba diving, tennis, and triathlons. She holds certificates in Critical Care, Trauma, ACLS, BCLS, Wilderness First Aid, and Outdoor Emergency Care.
LARRY KNUTSON – PROGRAM ADVISOR
Larry is founder and owner of Penn Trails LLC (www.penntrails.com) a company devoted to planning, designing and building natural surface trails throughout the United States. Larry is also a deeply experienced outdoor educator, teaching a wide range of trails related classes and workshops. Over his career, he has worked as a Pennsylvania State Parks Ranger, Appalachian Trail Overseer, backpacking guide, wilderness medicine instructor, and Wilderness EMT. He is the 2003 recipient of the American Hiking Society’s Volunteer of the Year award and served two consecutive 3 year appointments on the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources State Trails Advisory Board.
SARAH BOLING - SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING MANAGER
Sarah is a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant and graduated from McCann School of Business and Technology in 2012 with her associate’s degree. She has been working in the medical field for the past 12 years. CPR/AED and First Aid Certified. Sarah excels in research and marketing on social media and enjoys engaging with the public. When she isn’t busy helping others, Sarah takes care of her little family of two VERY active boys!
CHARLEY -- MASCOT / SECURITY (EMERITUS)
Charley is an experienced and enthusiastic outdoorsman who loves adventuring with his family. Gifted at chasing, barking, and sniffing, he is MORE's Security Chief. He voluntarily participates in product testing (as seen here). When not out and about, he spends his time quietly at home with his feline brother and sister plotting mayhem and developing elaborate escape plans. Sadly, Charley passed away in 2024 without an opportunity to onboard his replacement who will be featured in 2025.
